Former policeman arrested over ammo, firearms

A former policeman was arrested for being in possession of four unlicensed firearms and several hundred rounds of ammunition.

While investigating a break-in which occurred in Boksburg North, in April, the Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Task Team arrested the man in Benoni on Thursday (May 5).

According to EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago, 240 rounds of ammunition were discovered in the man’s Marister home, but no firearms.

“He then led them to a self-storage unit in Birch Road, where two shotguns, a .22 rifle and a pistol were discovered,” said Tryna Maritz, Crystal Park SAPS spokesperson.

“He is currently being detained at the Boksburg North Police Station and has been charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and housebreaking.”

The suspect is a former police officer from the Brixton Murder and Robbery Unit.

He is expected to appear in court soon.
