Donations pour in for family of girls killed in shack fire
The community of Boksburg is rallying to support the family of the four-year-old twin sisters who were burnt beyond recognition in a shack fire in Road Reserve, Ramaphosa, on Sunday morning, April 17.
A day after the fire killed the sisters and rendered the remaining family members homeless, the Reiger Park CPF and SAPS along with members of the community rallied to collect donations to help the devastated family.
From April 18 through May 4, caring people and organisations in various communities responded to help the fire victims by donating new and used clothing and household items to help the family members get their lives back together.
The CPF along with the police visited the family on Thursday, May 5 to hand over the donated items.
During the handover, the Reiger Park SAPS station commander Col Elsie Mashinini presented a certificate of appreciation to Maranatha Funeral Directors for donating the two coffins for the four-year-old twin sisters who died in the shack fire.
The family’s shack has been rebuilt.
The mother of the twin sisters, Rose Makgatho thanked all those who had rallied behind the family and contributed something.
“Although it is still hard to come to terms with the tragedy which has befallen us, it feels so good to see that there are people who care for others,” said Makgatho.
The Reiger Park CPF and SAPS are still accepting donations for the family.
They are accepting monetary donations, clothing, food, furniture and all other necessities.
If you would like to help the family, you can do so by contacting the Reiger Park CPF chairperson, Pastor Francis Coetzee, on 083 647 8336.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire that claimed the life of the little girls. -@FanieFLK
