Guard arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm

A security guard from a company situated in Hughes was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, at noon on April 26.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communication officer Lieut Juanita Coetzer, Sgt Jaco van der Mescht, Const Heinreich Bester, Sgt Richard Horn and WO Siewert Wiid received information of someone carrying an unlicensed firearm.

“They went to investigate and upon approaching the two security guards at the company, the one guard threw his firearm down and ran away,” said Coetzer.

“He was a foreigner with only asylum papers. They checked the other guard’s firearm and found that he had no competency to carry a firearm,” Coetzer added.

The guard was arrested and the two automatic firearms were confiscated.

Investigation will continue in this matter.
