Situation in Angelo returned to normal

The situation has returned to normal in Angelo informal settlement, after almost a day long running battles between police and Lesotho nationals on April 26.

The wave of attacks and looting was triggered after a foreign shop owner allegedly shot and killed a Lesotho man during an alleged argument about money on Monday night (April 25).

A group of angry Basotho went on a rampage this morning, looting foreign owned shops.

The Basotho retaliated by vandalising and looting foreign-owned shops early this morning.

Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Lieut Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese confirmed that the general situation is normal at moment (by Tuesday afternoon, April 26), adding that more police units have been deployed to monitor the situation.

According to Ngobese, foreign shop owners were also being helped to move their belongings to a place of safety.

Meanwhile, it’s been rumoured that the group of Lesotho nationals will be reinforced by another groups of Basotho, and they are planning to continue their attacks on foreign-owned shops tonight.

Several suspects have so far been arrested, including the foreign shop owner who allegedly shot the Lesotho national.
