Car guards under fire in daring daylight robbery; suspects caught
Passersby had to run for cover when a gang of fleeing thugs opened fire on car guards following a daring daylight robbery of a clothing store on Commissioner Street, Boksburg CBD today (April 5).
According to information obtained by the Advertiser, three armed robbers stormed Fashion World and held staff and customers at gunpoint.
The robbers then loaded new cellphones and cash into a school bag and fled towards their waiting getaway car, which was parked a few metres from the scene.
The unarmed car guards noticed the fleeing robbers and gave chase, but the robbers opened fire on them.
No one was injured.
The driver of the getaway car apparently panicked and drove off leaving one the suspects behind, who was subsequently nabbed.
The police were alerted of the robbery and successfully pursued the fleeing vehicle, described as a greyish double-cab bakkie.
Another suspect was arrested upon the getaway vehicle being cornered on the N17 Highway.
