Van Dyk Park woman’s offer to help her murder victim’s child rejected

Candice Prevost's offer to help educate the child whose mother she killed was reported to have been angrily rejected by the child’s father, who said he didn't want her money.

Candice Prevost has been convicted of murder of Nthabiseng Selesho (23) and is facing sentence in the high court sitting in the Palm Ridge Court.

On September 4, 2014, Prevost lured Selesho to a Boksburg home she shared with her fiancé Ashley de Villiers and former fiancé Wayne Williams under the pretext of wanting to buy jewellery.

The Advertiser quoted Soweto Police Cluster spokesperson WO Kay Makhubela then saying that Selesho had an additional order of about R300 000 worth of jewellery, which she was supposed to deliver afterwards, to other clients.

“When she arrived at about 1pm, the client behaved as normal by accepting her order, and electronically made a R1 000 payment,” said Makhubela.

“All of a sudden, the trio attacked Selesho in the house, overpowered her and took all her jewellery.

“They strangled her then shoved her inside her vehicle, and drove to Lenasia. Selesho’s body was placed on the backseat of the vehicle, which was doused with petrol and set alight.”

Both the vehicle and Selesho were burnt beyond recognition.

Prevost said in a letter handed to court on Monday, March 5, that she apologises to Selesho’s family.

She said she had been on drugs at the time and did not intend to kill Selesho.

She reportedly offered to Selesho’s two-year-old son’s education and be involved in his life as much as possible if the court would be lenient on her.

But the baby’s father, Ketso Monaheng, rejected Prevost’s offer saying he doesn’t want a cent from her.

He also dismissed Prevost’s apology as a ploy to ensure a lenient sentence.

Sentence will reportedly be handed down today (Tuesday, April 5).
