Man arrested for R4-m worth of drugs at airport

A male passenger who seemed to be in a hurry to bypass customs was busted for possession of 13kg of methamphetamine valued at R4-million at OR International Airport at just after 6am on Sunday, February 14.

Sars said on its website that the the man (51) with a dual Nigerian and South African passport was stopped by vigilant SARS Customs officials who conducted a physical profile of passengers and noticed that his small suitcase on wheels was too heavy for its size.

“It was taken through the scan and tests revealed a dense green colour that turned out to be drugs in three black plastic bags that confirmed it was crystal methamphetamine.

“The man has been handed over to the SAPS for criminal prosecution.”
