Criminals back at work after the holidays

Police reports indicate that criminals have returned to work in some areas of Boksburg.

After apparently enjoying their holiday break, house robbers have already relieved two families of goods worth thousands of Rand.

In the first robbery, thugs forced their way into a home on Dinsley Road, Freeway Park, and robbed the victim of goods worth R200 000.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Lieut Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese, two men driving in a white VW Jetta forced opened one of the doors of the house to gain access into the property at about 3.30pm, on Saturday, January 16.

“They found a woman in her bedroom and threatened her with a firearm, while demanding her car keys.

“They then stole a TV set, laptop, jewellery and cash, before they left the scene,” he said.

No arrests have been made so far, but police are investigating the matter.

* In the second robbery, four heavily armed thugs stole goods worth about R59 900 from a house in Wesp Road, Sunward Park, at about 2pm on Sunday, January 17.

The complainant told police that the armed intruders found him in the house.

“They tied up the owner with a belt, before stealing his two firearms and jewellery,” said Ngobese.

A case of house robbery was registered, and the thugs are still at large.

According to police reports, both Sunward Park and Freeway Park saw a substantial increase in house robberies last year, prompting police to set up a task team to address the problem.

The initiative did bear fruits in 2015, as many suspects were apprehended and stolen goods recovered.-@FanieFLK
