Help police solve killings

Twenty-six people have been killed within the Reiger Park policing precinct since the beginning of this year, with most of the killers still on the loose.

According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela, Ramaphosa is leading the precinct with the highest number of murder cases reported to the police since January.

Ramaphosa and the informal settlements have seen an unsettling series of unexplained killings this year.

Most of the confirmed killings have been stabbings or shootings, with the majority of them occurring in the night over weekends and in close proximity to shebeens.

In one of the more recent incidents, police reported that a man, identified as John Makhahla (31), was gunned down in Ramaphosa on November 23.

“Police received a call about a shooting at Ramaphosa Road Reserve and on their arrival they found an African man with gunshot wounds to the upper body and one to the head.

“Paramedics certified him dead on the scene, but the motive for the killing is unknown at this stage,” said Phathela.

The shootings have both the police and many Reiger Park residents concerned.

Residents are on edge when walking down the streets after dark, due to the on-going shootings.

Official SAPS crime statistics revealed that the police station registered 32 murder cases during the 2014/2015 financial year, while 27 murder cases were reported in the 2013/2014 year.

The cases have prompted police to appeal for the public’s help in tracking down the perpetrator/s.

Anyone with information on these murders is asked to call the Reiger Park police on 011 916 7000.

Anyone with information on the murder of John Makhahla is asked to directly phone the investigating officer, Det W/O Ben Olifant, on 011 916 7000, quoting case number 262/11/2015. – @FanieFLK
