Celebrity dogs spread some joy among the elderly

The elderly residents of Ridgeview Village were thrilled when three celebrity dogs recently visited them to spread some joy.

As the residents of the Village aren’t allowed to keep their own pets, this visit served as a therapeutic exercise.

About 70 little ones from Woodlands Pre-Primary also joined in on the fun.

Jazmine, Oscar and Yola, from Joy Dogs, under the guidance of their owner Sue Green, have been serving the educational sector since 2011.

”Joy” is an acronym that was accidentally formed by the first letter of the trio’s names.

The beautiful Old English Sheepdogs are Jazmine (8), who comes from Port Elizabeth, Oscar (6), who was imported from Belgium, and Yola, a two-year-old from Hungary.

Then there is Yogi, who comes from East London. She is 13 years old and semi-retired since the beginning of 2014. Yogi did not visit the Village.

All the dogs have been trained since puppyhood and still attend school twice a week. They also sleep on the bed with their owner.

Oscar is the famous dog who stars in a television advert for a well-known paint company.

Jasmine and Yola have also previously been snapped for the printed adverts of the company.

On their first visit to Ridgeview Village, Green and her Joy Dogs had a jam-packed show planned for the crowd.

First, she introduced the Old English Sheepdog-breed to the crowd.

To their amazement, the dogs did a few tricks, like turning in circles on demand, reading, ”saying” thank you, giving a high-5, running through a tunnel, and many more.

Green has started collecting the hair after the dogs have been groomed and has woven beautiful beanies, scarves, waistcoats and blankets from it.
