Atlasville wife traumatised as thieves hit husband with hammer

An Atlasville woman was left traumatised after her husband was assaulted with a hammer over the head during an attempted car hijacking on November 10.

The man was treated for minor injuries at the hospital.

The incident took place at around 10.45am at the victim’s residence in Verbena Street, Atlasville.

According to Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Lieut Juanita Coetzer, the domestic worker was initially alerted to something being amiss when she heard the owner of the house, who was outside at the time, screaming.

Upon investigation, she found three men inside the yard, attempting to steal the owner’s vehicle.

“One of the men pointed a firearm at the domestic worker while the other two had accosted the owner and her husband, during which time the husband was assaulted with the hammer.

“The domestic worker fortunately acted swiftly and ran into the house to press the panic button.

“Probably realising their plan at hijacking the car was foiled, the three suspects fled the scene in a grey SUV.”

The victim was treated at hospital and, according to Coetzer, the wife of the victim is very traumatised.

Nothing was stolen from the property.
