Zandri’s ‘Rugby With Purpose’ achieves goal

Sunward Park resident Zandri Swanepoel (13), a finalist in the Miss SA Schools Ambassador Campaign for 2015, has achieved her goal with her ''Rugby With Purpose'' project.

The main aim of the Miss SA Schools 2015 pageant is to empower and uplift communities.

Zandri initiated Rugby With Purpose, which involves raising funds and collecting rugby equipment to donate to selected, less privileged schools.

Zandri and her school principal Wium Uys, identified Laerskool Die President, situated in Fishershill, Primrose, as the school where she wanted to make difference.

On October 21, Zandri, together with Uys, facilitated the handover of the rugby equipment and funds raised during her Rugby With Purpose campaign.

Due to the challenging socio-economic climate impacting severely on Laerskool Die President, Sybrand van Dyk, principal of the school welcomed this generous donation from Zandri.

In an emotional ceremony, van Dyk expressed his deep gratitude to Zandri for her courageous and exemplary effort to make a difference.

Van Dyk said that a school such as Laerskool Die President strives to create and develop an environment where the learners may enjoy increased possibilities to engage in academic as well as sport activities.

Van Dyk firmly believes in developing and empowering learners, regardless of the challenges they might encounter.

Zandri expressed her gratitude to the Miss SA Schools Campaign, which provided a platform and opportunity for her to become deeply aware and conscious of the need and responsibility to use one’s existing and extended network to make a difference.

In just over 30 days, Zandri raised funds and equipment valued at R15 000 with her campaign.

Zandri submitted her Portfolio of Evidence to the campaign panel of Miss SA School Ambassador 2015 and the winner will be announced on October 31, during a prestigious event at the Carousel Casino.
