World martial arts champs at Summerfields primary

Two pupils from Summerfields Primary School, who are also brothers, won titles at the World Martial Arts Championships, held in England, from October 16 to 18.

The competition consisted of forms, weapons and kickboxing, and these pupils participated in all three categories.

Mahmood Mahomed (11), a Grade Five pupil, won six titles (two gold, three silver and one bronze), while Ahmad Mahomed (8), a Grade Two pupil, scooped 10 titles (one gold, six silver and three bronze).

All in all, the South African team brought back 71 world titles and set a new record for the country.

Team South Africa was placed second in the world in medals at this year’s championships.
