Major drug bust in Reiger Park; 553 mandrax tablets seized
Acting on information supplied by the community, Boksburg North and Reiger Park police took down a 34-year-old suspected drug pusher, operating in Reiger Park, on Wednesday, October 21.
A crowd of curious onlookers watched as the suspected drug pusher’s home was stormed by a number of police officers.
During the raid, officers found bags of dagga and 553 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R22 000.
Some R2 373 in cash was also seized and is believed to be the proceeds of crime.
One suspect was arrested, and he was charged with dealing in drugs.
He is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court.
The house in question is located in Stanbury Crescent, a few metres away from a secondary school and a shopping centre.
According to a spokesperson for the Reiger Park SAPS, Srgt Mashudu Phathela, the house is among the multiple suspected drug houses in the area being used for distribution within the community.
It also emerged that a relative of the 34-year-old suspect was on the same day appearing in court for drug related charge, after he was arrested the previous day.
As part of their fight against drugs, the Reiger Park police managed to take down 27 suspected drug pushers between October 12 and 19.
Phathela, who also took part in the joint operation, applauded the cooperation of the public.
One concerned residents, her name know to the Advertiser, lauded the police for bringing down the drug dealer she described as an ‘unscrupulous community destroyer’.
“I’m happy with what the police are doing because these arrests are helping to get a lot of drugs off the streets and out of our community,” said the resident.
“Drugs continue to put our young people’s lives in danger, and I feel sorry for the parents whose children are already hooked on drugs.
“Some of these youngsters would even steal from their homes to maintain their habit.” -@FanieFLK
