The 39-year-old Atlasville resident appeared in the Boksburg Magistrates Court on October 2, following his arrest on September 30.
Boksburg Magistrates Court senior prosecutor Henk Strydom said the case will be heard in camera as per Section 335 of CPA.
The suspect is alleged to have taken as many as 50 pictures of the victim in naked poses and to have advertised them online, while the child’s mother was oblivious of what her daughter was being subjected to by her boyfriend.
“After receiving and following up on information from their US colleagues, the specialised team working for the South African Police Service’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, based in Gauteng, arrested the suspect at his place of work in Boksburg,” said national police spokesperson Brig Vishnu Naidoo.
