Police, community give drug dealers a hard time

Reiger Park police continue to make things difficult for drug dealers trading in their policing precinct, by raiding drug dens.

The police station recently adopted a tough stance on drug-related crime, and this has seen a remarkable number of suspects arrested for such offenses.

According to their recent crime report, police officers arrested 31 suspects for drug-related crime during the period September 21 and 28.

Despite police efforts to rid the community of drugs, some people – relatives of the suspects, in particular – continue to harass police officers while they are enforcing the law in the area.

The Advertiser understands that those who work against the police are accusing the officers of not arresting the group of people who are supplying drugs in large quantities to the street pushers.

Reacting to this accusation, Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela encouraged all community members to come forward with information that may lead to the arrests of the suppliers of drugs.

“We applaud those who are already assisting us to take back the streets from criminals,” he said.

“Your strong support of the police operations goes a long way in changing the community for the better.

“Moreover, we also urge those who are not yet working with us to do so by simply passing on tip-offs by phoning Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or sending an anonymous SMS to Crime Line on 32211.”
