Gruesome discovery: Scavenger stumbles upon burnt body

A scrap metal scavenger made a gruesome discovery on Tuesday, September 22 when he stumbled upon a burnt body of a man.

The unidentified man, believed to be in his 30s, was found in the open veld (southern side of Commissioner Street) opposite Delmore Garden, at about noon.

Police and paramedics certified the man dead.

According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Mashudu Phathela, apart from the burn injuries, the man’s body bares no visible stab or bullet wounds.

Phathela suspects that the man was killed somewhere else before he was dumped.

Next to the body, police found a wallet containing bank cards and a photo of a woman and they believe that these items could help them identify the suspect.

Police are making inquiries to identify the man and are urgently seeking assistance from the public.

Phathela urged anyone who could identify the women in the photo or has a missing friend or relative matching this description to contact the police. Phone the investigating officer, Det W/O Ben Oliphant on 011 916 7000. -@FanieFLK
