Dip ’n dog at local SPCA

Tick-season is approaching and the Boksburg SPCA offers the community an opportunity to bring their dogs to the society for a dip – absolutely free of charge.

A donation to the society for this kind gesture is, however, up to you and will be appreciated.

Biliary fever (also tick bite fever) is deadly. It is an illness of the liver affecting horses, dogs and cats.

This is the most common infectious disease of dogs in Southern Africa.

It is caused by a tiny parasite which is introduced into the body by a tick bite. This parasite then enters and destroys red blood cells.

Boksburg SPCA manager Maggie Mudd urges dog owners to dip their pets on a regular basis – at least every second week.

Dogs can only be dipped in nice weather.

You cannot dip cats. It’s important to check for ticks on animals with thick and long coats, as it is not always easy to spot the ticks.

Dipping takes only a few minutes.
