Resident cry foul over huge sewage spill

The Advertiser has, for the past couple of days, been inundated with calls from residents complaining about a massive sewage spill on the corner of Atlas Road and the N12 freeway, in Bartlett.

The fuming residents claim that they have, on numerous occasions, requested the municipality to stop the spillage, but nothing has happened.

Instead, municipal officials are said to have told the concerned residents that the problem could not be attended to urgently — because the area is inaccessible.

The Advertiser, however, managed to access the area on Tuesday afternoon (September 8), witnessing hundreds of litres of raw/untreated sewage spilling into a nearby small dam, adjacent to the N12.

It is believed that the spillage is due to a damaged sewerage pipe.

The metro has not yet commented on the matter. -@FanieFLK
