Application to extend Wild Waters’ operating hours progresses
The Ekurhuleni Metro has confirmed that the application to amend the operating hours of the Wild Waters Complex has progressed to the Development Tribunal.
Event organisers have applied to the municipality to have the business hours of certain parties, held annually at the Wild Waters Complex, be extended.
These parties include the annual Ekurhuleni Spring Fiesta.
According to the spokesperson for the metro, Themba Gadebe, for such purpose, a rezoning application had to be submitted.
“This application included site notices and advertisements in the newspaper. This was done and various objections have been received,” he said.
“A report will now be submitted to the Development Tribunal and all objectors, as well as the applicant, will be invited to state their respective cases.
“All parties will, therefore, be heard by the tribunal before a decision is made. The parties will all be notified via registered post of the date and venue of the hearing.”
Festival director Ricardo Da Costa told the Advertiser that, if all goes well, it means the venue will have to close by 2am.
He added that this is in line with the bylaws on Liquor Act trading hours, which stipulates that they may enjoy late trading hours until 2am.
Da Costa mentioned that the changes might also benefit motorists who use North Rand Road on the day of the event, as they plan to ease the problem of traffic congestion by delaying the start of the event by at least two hours.
This means the venue will have to open its doors from 2pm to 2am, instead of from noon to midnight.
This year’s Ekurhuleni Spring Fiesta will be held on October 3.
