Girl (7) raped at a Vosloorus primary school

A gang rape has been reported at a primary school in Vosloorus this week.

The Kathorus Mail reports that a seven-year-old pupil at the Rebontsheng Primary School in Vosloorus was raped allegedly by a group of older boys from the same school.

The Gauteng Education Department says it takes the allegations of the gang rape seriously.

Spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane said the School Governing Body is expected to meet soon.

The victim was attacked during school hours allegedly by a group of four boys believed to be in grade six.

Her parents say medical staff confirmed she was raped but they are not yet sure of the exact details of the incident.

Sekhonyane says the department is trying to reverse the negative behaviour many pupils pick up in their communities.

“We are trying our best to create awareness, both through the curriculum and road shows, about abuse and also assist the learners who find themselves in this situation.”
