Local dancers makes headlines in Los Angeles

At the ages of only seven and eight, two local world champions have been crowned in the community.

Jordan Ciccarelli (7) and Shanelle le Roux (8, Laerskool Westwood), two dancers from Elite Beat Dance Academy in Boksburg, represented South Africa at the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, from July 6 to 22.

They attained the following results:

Shanelle:

Gold: Dance Hip Hop (age group five to seven)

Silver: Dance Contemporary (age group five to seven)

Silver: Dance Open (age group five to seven)

Overall Champion of the World 10-and-under Hip Hop

Jordan:

Gold: Dance Contemporary (age group five to seven)

Gold: Dance Open (age group five to seven)

Silver: Dance Hip Hop (age group five to seven)

Overall Champion of the World 10-and-under Open

These girls have been dancing since they were four years old and have a great love for this field.

Jordan and Shanelle first competed at the provincial round and South African Championships, before achieving the honour of representing the Green and Gold at the world championships.

Both girls have also received a one-month scholarship worth $5 000 (about R60 000) to attend American dance studio The Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles. – @SabeloBoksburg
