
* Abram Nel (49), of Van Dyk Park, was sentenced to 24 months correctional supervision, on June 29, for possession of drugs.
He was found in possession of 0.19g of methamphetamine on October 14, last year.
The accused had pleaded guilty to the charge on February 29.
He was also found guilty of contempt of court and was sentenced to a fine of R500 or 30 days in prison on this count.
Magistrate Hans Havenga presided and prosecutor Palesa Setshedi represented the state.
* Mark Samuel Bell, of Plantation, pleaded not guilty to stealing a cellphone.
The court, however, found him guilty on June 29 and sentenced him to a R5 000 fine or six months in prison.
On April 18, Bell assaulted Mandla Nkosi Ngwenya and forcefully took his Sumsung S3 cellphone and earphones, all valued at R2 500.
Magistrate Emmanuel Magampa presided and prosecutor Angeline Mooiman represented the state.
* Lerato Motlohi, of Tambo informal settlement, pleaded guilty and was found guilty of killing Stephen Ngumoi, on May 28.
On September 7, last year, at a tavern, the accused unlawfully and negligently caused the death of Ngumoi.
He threw a glass jack in the victim’s direction and it hit a steel pole and broke into little pieces.
One of the pieces severed Ngumai’s artery in his arm and he died of blood loss.
The accused was initially charged with murder, but the charge later changed to culpable homicide, after intention to kill could not be proven.
He was sentenced to eight years in prison, of which four were suspended for five years.
The accused has no previous convictions.

* Phillip Rakoloti (54), of Reiger Park, pleaded not guilty to a murder charge on February 23, but was found guilty on May 19.
On April 13, last year, the accused killed Abram Mahlangu.
He has 13 previous convictions, including rape, robbery, pretending to be a police officer and possession of drugs, dating back to 1979.
He was sentenced to 15 years in prison on June 29.

* Dawid Botha (24), of Bokburg North, pleaded guilty and was found guilty on May 7, of two charges.
He was accused of two counts: (1) housebreaking with intent to steal and theft, and (2) fraud.
In February this year, at or near 7 Paul Smith Street, on the property belonging to Yvonne Bester, the accused stole electrical equipment, clothing and jewellery, as well as a Chevrolet Spark, all valued at R126 900.
He then unlawfully and falsely sold the vehicle to Fayyaz Ahmed, of Sinato Motors.
He pretended that he had the consent of his girlfriend to sell the car, whereas, in truth and in fact he knew he had stolen the vehicle.
He has a previous conviction for possession of drugs.
On June 29, the accused was sentenced to seven years in prison on count one, of which three years were suspended for five years.
On count two, he was also sentenced to seven years in prison of which three years were suspended for five years.
