
* Aviwe Fanigo (20), of Villa Liza, was convicted of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft, on June 22.
Fanigo pleaded guilty on May 5, and the court found him guilty of breaking into Sabastios Mekie’s house in Maple Street, Villa Lisa, on March 11.
He stole clothes, a radio and R900 cash. He was previously convicted of assault and malicious damage to property.
Fanigo was sentenced to three years in jail.
Magistrate Jurg Vivier presided and prosecutor Themba Maluleka represented the state.
* Tshepo Mokone, of Windmill Park, pleaded not guilty, but was found guilty of attempting to rape an elderly woman in February.
He was sentenced to eight years imprisonment and was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
He has no previous convictions.
Magistrate Sijren Harichand presided and prosecutor Nkosazana Tyeku represented the state.
* Confidence Ngubeni (26), of Tembisa, was found guilty of arson.
On January 26, Ngubeni unlawfully, and with intention to injure Tryphina Mukwiho, set fire to and damaged house 7172 in Mapleton, belonging to Brucely Mapapa.
The accused had no previous conviction.
Ngubeni was sentenced to six years in jail, wholly suspended for five years, on condition that:
– he is not convicted on arson during this period;
– he compensates the victim to the sum of R50 000, in instalments of R2 000 per month.
The first payment is to be made by June 30.

* Lanwabo Holi (31), of the Joe Slovo informal settlement, was convicted of theft on June 22.
On April 14, the accused stole copper cables from the Ekurhuleni Metro.
He had a previous conviction for theft and was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
Magistrate Emmanuel Magampa presided and Angeline Mooiman represented the state.
* Ryno van As was convicted of the possession of drugs on June 23.
Van As was found in possession of 1g of Cat on September 9, 2014. He was sentenced to a fine of R2 000 or four months in prison.
Magistrate Ryan van Harte presided and prosecutor Busi Mofokeng represented the state.
* Sindisiwa Skhosana pleaded guilty, was found guilty and sentenced on June 24, of a charge of theft.
She was accused of stealing clothes worth R4 000 from Edgars and was sentenced to a fine of R4 000 or six months in prison.
She had no previous convictions.
