Members of the Reiger Park SAPS arrested a man after he was found to be in possession of two unlicensed firearms and live ammunition, in Ramaphosa Extension Two, on June 18.
A 9mm Norinco and a revolver loaded with two rounds were found in his possession. Sixteen more rounds were also seized.
“Police acted swiftly following a tip-off by community members; the man was asked to produce a licence to possess a firearm and failed to do so,” said Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela.
“He was arrested and detained in police cells.”The serial numbers of both firearms were filed off.
The recovered weapons will be taken for ballistics testing, to ascertain if they were used in any criminal activities.
The accused was charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
He is expected to appear in court this week.
