A joint service was held at the NG Kerk Bonaero Park at 11am.

At about 12.30pm, the funeral procession left the church and made its way to Bredell Cemetery, where Day was buried, and then finally to Zuurfontein Cemetery, where Roos was buried.

The pain was evident on many people’s faces as they wept dearly for their beloved children and friends.

Inside the church, a heart-warming tribute to 24-year-old Day was presented by his older brother, who described him as “the strong one in the family” and that his smile would be missed.

“You gave your life to God.”

Roos’ mother, father, sisters and friends all wrote beautiful messages to the 21-year-old in the funeral programme.

The service was conducted by Pastor Dirk Human of the church.

At the end, Day’s uncle thanked everyone for attending the service.
