Suspect in hammer assault arrested

A man was transported to hospital after being hit with a hammer at a sports pub in Trichardts Road, Ravenswood, on Monday night, May 18.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson, Lieut Juanita Coetzer, the Boksburg North SAPS was called out to the scene of a GBH (grievous bodily harm) assault case.

Coetzer said the brother-in-law of the victim explained to the police that the suspect hit the victim with a hammer during an apparent fight.

The severity of the victim’s injuries and the motive of the fight are still unknown.

“The brother-in-law pointed the suspect out to the police,” said Coetzer.

“The suspect admitted to the police that he hit the victim with a hammer.”

The suspect was arrested and the hammer was confiscated.
