Man found gunned down on Commissioner Street

Reiger Park police are nonplussed regarding the shooting of a security guard, whose body was found on Tuesday evening, March 10.

Terence Swinney, in his 20s, was found by a member of the public next to the traffic light at the corner of Commissioner Street and Wit Deep Road, Delmore Garden.

According to Sgt Mashudu Phathela, the spokesperson for Reiger Park SAPS, officers responded at about 8.20pm to a report of a man unresponsively lying on the ground.

The guard had sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police believe he was attacked by a gang of robbers who tried to mug him. However, the deceased’s cellphone, wallet containing money and a small bag were not stolen.

A murder investigation is underway.

Phathela urges eyewitnesses to come forward with information and to contact the Reiger Park police on 011 916 7000.

* In another incident, a man was shot in his stomach in broad daylight, in Middle Road, Reiger Park.

The motive for the shooting is unknown, but Phathela said the victim was in a stable condition by Wednesday, March 11.
