Metro urges residents to save water

Areas that are suffering from major water losses were targeted for an awareness and education campaign, to turn the situation around.

This is according to the metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, who says such a step is necessary following the biggest water supply interruption being experienced in September, last year, in Gauteng.

Until February 17, the metro embarked on a door-to-door campaign to get residents involved in the fight against water losses.

“We thoroughly engaged with community members on how to preserve water,” he said.

“More importantly, we also provided residents do-it-yourself tips on repairing internal household leaks, as well as issuing out of water conservation materials, such as basin stoppers and easy to read educational flyers.

“In addition, the campaign focused on the reduction of sewer blockages, which are mainly caused by foreign objects found in sewer lines.”
