Guards severely beaten during robbery at Afrisam Mine

Eight security guards were attacked and tied up by more than 20 thugs during a robbery at the Afrisam Mine in Dawn Park on January 26.

Two of the guards tried to fight the attackers but were severely beaten and later admitted to hospital in critical condition.

The men then stole a total of six Caterpillar tyres and batteries worth R700 000.

The robbery was confirmed by Dawn Park SAPS spokesman Capt Charles Tshabalala.

“During the early hours of the morning, the guards were overpowered by the thugs who arrived with a huge truck to load the loot.”

The suspects fled the scene immediately.
