Protesting officers want “useless” station commander gone

A group of off-duty police officers along with their representatives from police union Popcru, protested inside the premises of the Boksburg Police Station today (January 22).

The officers want their station commander, Col Biggs Govender, to be removed from his job with immediate effect.

They were carrying placards accusing him of being “useless and corrupt”.
Cluster commander Brig Wessie van der Westhuizen later addressed protesting officers in a closed meeting.
He declined to talk to the media, however, a police source said Van der Westhuizen promised to escalate their grievances to the SAPS management and will give them feedback on January 23.
