Proposal for historical museum rejected
In efforts to preserve, protect and share the history of Boksburg, the Boksburg Historical Association has recently proposed converting the Old Boksbug Post Office building into a historical museum.
According to Ken Ward of the Boksburg Historical Association, the association had approached the municipality about the plan, in March, this year.
However, according to Ward, their request met a flat turn-down.
“The metro told us that they wanted to use the building, but didn’t tell us for what,” explains Ward.
In spite of that, the association says it will continue scouting around for a unused building to turn into a museum, which will become an important resource for school children who want to do research project.
The proposed museum would feature a collection of items related to the history of Boksburg, including photographs and a range of selected museum artefacts.
“The museum can also help teach residents, the youth in particular, Boksburg history using object-based learning techniques. People don’t have access to our historical objects, because we are currently hiding them away in a room at Boksburg High.”
The Advertiser has approached the municipality for comment.
