16 Injured in collision

Sixteen people aged 19 to 79, sustained a series of injuries when a minibus collided with a Daihatsu at the corner of Kingfisher and Rondebult roads at about 10.30am on Thursday, September 11.

According to EMPD media liaison Kobeli Mokheseng, a white minibus taxi travelling from Boksburg to Vosloorus with 15 occupants, including the driver, collided with a white Daihatsu Terios with two females, which included the driver.

“It is not clear at this stage what actually occurred before the crash but preliminary investigation reveals that both vehicles were travelling side-by-side on Rondebult Road towards Dawn Park (south), with the taxi in the right lane. The Daihatsu (allegedly) made a U-turn in front of the minibus before overturning.

“A 31-year old male taxi driver, and 13 male and female passengers between the ages of 19 and 79, sustained slight injuries, while a 56-year-old female sustained serious injuries, before they were rushed to the Natalspruit Hospital for medical treatment.

“The Ekurhuleni Emergency and Rescue had to use Jaws of Life in order to extract the trapped commuters,” explains Mokheseng.

Mokheseng says that the 60-year-old female Daihatsu driver sustained slight injuries while the 55-year old female passenger sustained serious injuries, before they were taken to the Sunward Park Hospital for medical treatment.

He says that the Ekurhuleni Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating. A case of reckless and negligent driving has been registered at the Boksburg police station. – @TumeloBoksburg
