According to Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the metro, the metro’s building control section issued a stop order to the owner to halt any and all renovations of the hotel.

“The Provincial Heritage Resources Authority Gauteng (PHRAG) must first approve a proposal, for renovations, prior to the submission of building plans to the Ekurhuleni metro before they can be considered for approval,” says Gadebe.

He says that it is unknown if the previous owner of the hotel had informed the new owner that renovations would have to be approved. – @CarmenBoksburg
