Two killed in Sunday’s bloody stabbing spree
Two fatal stabbings took place in Boksburg, on Sunday afternoon, September 7.
The crime spree in Boksburg began when Merriam Mthethwa (55) was stabbed in her shack in Blue Sky informal settlement.
The other was a stabbing of a man in Angelo informal settlement, a few hours later.
During the first homicide in Blue Sky at about 4.30pm, Mthethwa, was allegedly stabbed after a female resident of the settlement, known to the community, apparently approached a neighbour for a knife.
This is according to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Lieut Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese.
“She told her neighbour that she wanted to use the knife to peel potatoes. Due to the suspect’s angry tone, the neighbour refused to give her the knife, but the suspect grabbed it, exited the shack and ran towards the victim’s shack.
“The suspicious neighbour followed her, but she met the suspect on her way back from the victim’s shack, carrying the knife with blood stains.
“When she inquired about the blood stains on the knife, the suspect said, ‘I have stabbed gogo Merriam’,” explains Ngobese.
The alleged killer then fled the scene.
Profusely bleeding from the wound in her chest, Mthethwa exited her shack, and walked about 10m from her shack before she collapsed.
She was eventually pronounced dead at the scene, and her body was taken to the Germiston State mortuary.
A resident, Pansula Thys, told the Advertiser that fatal stabbings and shack fires are a prevalent problem in the area.
In another case, after 8pm on Sunday, Steve Ngoma (44) was fatally stabbed in Angelo informal settlement.
A witness told the police that the alleged killer walked up to the victim who was, at the time, having drinks. The suspect produced a knife and began stabbing the victim.
He was also pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. The suspect fled the scene after the incident.

Police ask that persons of interest, Lesotho national Fetsang Bojang, and Lerato Simon Motlohi (29), are handed over to the police or come in for questioning.
“We need to speak to them urgently. If anyone knows them or their whereabouts, they must get in touch with us immediately,” appeals Ngobese.
Anyone with information is asked to call the investigating officer, Det-Sgt Khutso Lefophane on 073 912 8490/10111.
The stabbing in Angelo sent residents of the area on a rampage.
Moment after the stabbing, they destroyed the suspect’s belongings and burnt down his shack, while others were searching for him in the neighbourhoods. – @FanieBoksburg
