Chamber demands answers over outages

The Greater Boksburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry is incensed by the recent power outage in the southern part of Boksburg.

This is according to Derek Fox of the Chamber.

“We have requests by our members to get to the truth behind this outage and as well as the assurance that it won’t happened again.

“The only way in which this will happen is for the Chamber to request that the members of the Ekurhuleni Council responsible for electricity grid, meet and engage with the Chamber Industry expert and satisfy the industry expert that this won’t happen again.

“We need the Chamber expert to be accompanied on an inspection of this facility where the circuit breakers failed, and also allow the industry expert to inspect maintenance schedules and plans.

“Our expert will then submit a report to the Chamber to allow it to report back to its members.

“Simply stated, this cannot be allowed to happen again, and will not be tolerated. Millions of rands worth of revenue was lost over what normally would have been a very busy trading weekend.

“As a Chamber, we represent some of the biggest businesses in the greater Boksburg yet, after the outages of between 36 to 40 hours, clearly some business are even threatening to withdraw from the city or even the metro.”
