According to Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, non-correspondence of the Golf’s vehicle licence with its engine and chassis prompted the Metro Police officers to investigate.
“The driver decided to come clean and led the Metro Police to a person staying in KwaThema who, he claimed, sold the fraudulent vehicle licence to him,” says Kgasago.
He adds that the suspect was tracked down and apprehended in Boksburg. It emerged that the culprit produces fraudulent licences for both private and public vehicles.
The 55-year-old suspect was booked in at Brakpan Police Station.
He will be facing charges of illegally producing official documents.
Police have initiated an in-depth investigation into the matter. – @CarmenBoksburg
