Issues raised include water leaks, pipe bursts, sewerage spillage, blocked drains and pipes, and overflowing drains to name a few.
The Department of Water and Sanitation recently held a National Water and Sanitation Summit at the Birchwood Hotel where Ekurhuleni mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele addressed the audience.
In light of challenges raised, metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe says the city has embarked on different programmes to allow for the refurbishment and upgrade of the current water and sanitation infrastructure.
“These programmes will enable developments and build confidence in the residence of Ekurhuleni.
“It must, however, be noted that the programmes are informed by the Asset Management Register, Growth and Development Strategy (GDS) 2055, Integrated Development Plan and other factors,” explains Gadebe.
Gadebe says provision on the Capital budget has been made available to allow for the introduction of these programmes. -@TumeloBoksburg
