
He pleaded guilty on July 3, was found guilty and sentenced on July 31.
During February and March, 2013, the accused committed three acts of rape against a 13-year-old girl.
He had previous convictions of driving while intoxicated in 2002 and theft in 2005.
In her victim impact statement, the girl said that she was scared and sad. She further added that she trusted someone she loved and will never trust someone again.
The court ordered that Smith only be considered for parole after serving at least two thirds of his sentence.
His name will be entered into the sexual offenders register.
