Light shines upon Bly Sky informal settlement

As people from around the world celebrated Mandela Day on Friday, July 18, Ekurhuleni metro took the celebrations a step further by giving light to the Blue Sky informal settlement in Boksburg North.

The lights, which come in form of a solar system, were installed in every shanty of the community.

Ward 32 counsellor, Johan Hendricks, said he was extremely pleased with the initiative.

“I’m very happy for the community (Blue Sky) that is getting light for the very first time,” said Hendricks.

“It’s a great initiative and I’m very pleased about the metro’s positive step to provide service delivery. I’d like to give a special thanks to the head of Department of Energy, Mark Wilson, who had a lot of influence in the project,” says the counsellor.

Other activities performed on the day included the cleaning of Blue Sky.
