Mdluli will face charges related to the unsolved 1999 murder case of his ex-lover’s husband, Oupa Ramogibe.
The NPA confirmed that certain charges will be reinstated against Mdluli, but refused to say which ones.
According to NPA spokesperson Nathi Ncube, the NPA’s decision has been communicated to Freedom Under Law (FUL) and to Mdluli.
“He will appear in court once the summons have been issued,” explains Ncube.
In April, the Supreme Court of Appeal upheld a high court ruling against the withdrawal of fraud and corruption charges against Mdluli.
FUL had sought an order in the high court in Pretoria to set aside the decisions and reinstate the charges against Mdluli.
Mdluli previously faced charges of fraud, corruption and money-laundering relating to the alleged abuse of a police slush fund.
He is alleged to have used money from the slush fund to buy expensive houses and cars for relatives.
He also faced charges of murder, kidnapping, intimidation, assault and defeating the ends of justice relating to the Ramogibe murder.
The charges were, however, withdrawn after an inquest held at the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court.
FUL could not be reached for comment. – @FanieBoksburg
