The two women, age 56 and 40, allegedly burned a child’s buttocks, hand and hips with heated bricks as a punishment.
They have made their third court appearance on Thursday, June 5, for formal bail applications.
The matter was, however, again postponed for further investigations.
They will appear again on Wednesday, June 11.
The women were arrested on May 27, and charged with counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
A man, said to be a third accomplice in the assault, is still at large.
A concerned resident first reported the matter after noticing blood on the buttocks of the boy’s trousers.
Following the incident, a handful of angry women from Comet village, mounted demonstrations outside the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court during the court proceedings, on May 28, June 3 and 5.
They demanded that the two alleged child abusers be denied bail.
Despite being criticised for fuelling xenophobia, local residents say they are still sticking to their guns on this issue.
“The law should take its own course in the matter, but we also want the accused to know that they are no longer accepted in our community,” says one of the concerned residents, who asked to remain anonymous.
The resident says the victim is recovering fast from the burn injuries, and was expected to attend school soon. – @FanieBoksburg
