Suspect shot dead in botched hijacking

Gunshots rang out in Jet Park on Wednesday afternoon, June 5, as gang of robbers tried to hijack a delivery van.

Just after 1pm, a delivery truck transporting undisclosed goods was stormed by a group of armed men, next to the traffic light at the corner of Jet Park Road and Rudo Nell Street.

According to an eye-witness, the robbers, driving in another vehicle, cut in front of the delivery van, forcing the driver of the delivery van to a halt.

The driver of the van and his assistant, however, managed to flee towards the nearby filling station.

The security guard, who was escorting the van, exchanged gunfire with the gang, resulting in one of the suspects being fatally wounded.
