Gauteng is bracing for colder temperatures

People in Gauteng are bracing themselves for colder temperatures over the weekend as a severe cold front from the Western Cape is expected to drive temperatures lower throughout the country.

According to the SA Weather Services, the brutal cold front that hit the Western Cape has already moved east across the country.

Forecasters also predict that the weather in Gauteng will change for the worst as we head towards the weekend.

Following the warning by the SA Weather Services, the Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services says its officials are bracing themselves for a busy few days.

“Our various teams including the Disaster Management Centre, the Emergency Services and other critical Council Departments will be on high alert to respond to life and non-life threatening situations,” says Anthony Kesten, Disaster Management’s divisional head.

He also states that, more people, in the informal settlements in particular, will make fires to keep warm, which may result in life-threatening fires in these areas and in open grassland areas.

Kesten urges residents to dress warmly and be very careful to keep open flames away from flammable materials.
