Every child has the right to play

As part of child protection celebrations, Boksburg Child Welfare has included World Play Day on their calendar and hosted a play day for a playgroup in Reiger Park, on Wednesday, May 28.

According to the Welfare’s manager, Marlene Visser, this initiative offers children the opportunity to explore new ways of learning and gives adults a chance to connect with their inner child.

“This year’s theme is the right to play. While play is an important children’s right, it is sad to note that many children living in South Africa are denied this right on a daily basis. Because children learn through play, it is vital that all children are exposed to resources that enhance their learning and that they have access to safe and clean places to explore,” says Visser.

The Boksburg Child Welfare would like to thank the following sponsors for their contribution to the World Play day for the playgroup in Reiger Park: SUN ACE South Africa, Caterpillar Kids, NBCC and J&J Bakeries.

Visser adds that the Boksburg Child Welfare will mark World Play Day and the Child Protection Week, through a series of projects that will highlight the importance of play in a child’s development and empowering children to themselves from violence, exploitation and abuse.

She says the following projects are planned:

* June 4: Child protection in Villa Lisa. Activities focusing on personal safety and child bullying for children and topics for parents include the right and responsibilities of children.

* June 5: Awareness programme on domestic violence in Vosloorus.

* June 5: Celebrating, children have the right to play. Children from Villa Lisa Play group to attend. – @TumeloBoksburg
