Petition: Clean up and restore Bokkie Park

Concerns about the alleged inadequate maintenance of the Bokkie Park has left a local Boksburg resident taking matters into own hands by starting a petition campaign.

This is an attempt to convince the community to help clean up and restore the park.

Kym Moneron works for Trinity Protection Services and resides in the Cinderella suburb.

“Every day I see the Bokkie Park and each day it shocks me.

“For example, take notice of all the rubbish dumped inside the Bokkie Park. This breaks my heart as I have a real soft-spot for animals and their surroundings.

“It also bugs me that it is not really a place where family and kids can relax because of rowdy behaviour from some of the visitors.

“The play facilities sadly are also all broken.”

According to Moneron, families want a nice outing where they can take their children to forget about the everyday life.

“When you have a picnic at the Bokkie Park, the animals that roam around often come to you hoping to be fed. Surely this is not a good sign.”

Moneron also noticed that the surrounding fencing isn’t helping much, as the bunnies are burrowing underneath it.

She says that animals such as the cows, horses and donkeys aren’t really treated properly.

“The little river must also have fish and ducks in it, but there is rubbish lying on the water and around it. I would honestly hate to see what the bottom of the river looks like.”

Moneron have started the petition in Cinderella, Parkdene, Parkrand and Sunward Park where petition forms have been pinned to notice boards at shops.

Together with Trinity Protection Services, she would like to get schools, churches and the community involved.

“We would like to help restore the Bokkie Park to its original glory and keep it that way.

“Once a month a group of people come in and help clean up. For me it’s harder to ruin something you have spent blood, sweat and tears trying to look after. It was hard to see Boksburg Lake go down the drain, so I don’t want my children to experience the negative things I experienced.”

She encourages the whole community to support her by supporting this community project.

Moneron mentions that she will not be benefiting anything out of this, other than seeing such a beloved park clean.
