Extremely high turnout at Ramaphosa voting station

Thousands of Ramaphosa residents queued at Conquerors Church in Ramaphosa to have their say in the future of their country.

Long queues were seen at the polling station from dawn until sundown, on May 7.

Queues of voters snaked around the premises and extended into the street.

The polling station was divided into several substations to speed up the process.

A presiding officer at the polling station told the Advertiser that there were more than 6 000 people registered to vote at her station, and 1 800 had done so by 1pm.

“We experienced an extremely high turnout. Our station had been busy since the doors opened at 7am,” he said.

The long queues didn’t deter the voters from making their mark. A handful of young South Africans joined their parents and grandparents in queues to cast their ballots.

Many of the “born-frees” who came to the voting station wanted the elections to bring change to their township.

Apart from the long queues, voting went smoothly at the station.
