This is according to acting metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.
“Criminals may be led to think that large amounts of money are being kept overnight at the Civic Centre, which is not necessarily the case,” says Gadebe.
The break-in took place on Thursday, March 27, when three armed men managed to gain access to the Boksburg Civic Centre by forcing the glass doors open at the front of the building in Trichardts Road.
The men over-powered and assaulted the guard on the inside of the building, tied him up and forced their way into a secure area of the cashiers by breaking down doors.
“The criminals cut open a deposit machine by using a blow torch and gas cylinders. The deposit machine was one of three that contained a portion of the previous day’s takings.
“The machine has been damaged beyond repair and the criminals made off with an undisclosed amount of cash,” says Gadebe.
Gadebe says the matter is being investigated by the SAPS as well as the EMPD.
No arrests have been made yet.
“There are close circuit cameras installed at this building and it is hoped that this will shed light in solving this crime.”
