The crash happened just before 8am, on Tuesday, April 1.
His name has not been released, but according to a carguard, who asked to remain anonymous, the man worked at a supermarket along Pretoria Street, about 50m from the scene.
“The man was crossing Commissioner Street from the north side to get to work when he was struck by a white Kombi, which was at the time turning to Commissioner Street,” says the guard.
According to the deceased employer, the man is a Mozambican national and he has only been working there for less than a week.
Spokesperson for the EMPD, inspector Kobedi Mokheseng, confirmed the incident and stated that a culpable homicide case was registered.
“At this stage we can only confirm the matter was handed over to the SAPS and their detective team is investigating the incident.”
The driver of the vehicle did stop, and his Kombi’s windscreen cracked during the crash.
