Boksburg police spokesperson Lieut Kwenzakwakhe Ngobese says the incident took place at 2am.
“Three males entered the municipal building, assaulted the security guard and tied him up. They then proceeded to break into the ATM drop safe, fleeing with the money,” says Ngobese.
Ngobese says the three suspects used cutting tools and gas cylinders to cut one of the three drop safes open, leaving behind the cylinders.
“At the moment there are no leads, but police are investigating.”
The guard was taken to hospital.
